LEC Finals: Owls fall in finals to Corsairs 1-0

Box Score

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 11/4/12 – The third seeded Keene State College field hockey team lost to top seed UMass-Dartmouth 1-0 in the championship game of the Little East Conference tournament at Cressy Field in North Dartmouth, Mass. on Sunday afternoon.

UMass-Dartmouth (16-5) captures its third LEC title in the last four years while Keene State (15-7) awaits a possible berth to the ECAC New England championship on Sunday.

"We had our chances, but we couldn't finish today," said KSC Coach Amy Watson.  It was a hard-fought game and only one team can win. No one is down.  We left it on the field."

Junior Victoria Dolce (Jamestown, R.I.) scored the only goal of the game off a corner play at the 49:31 mark of the second half.

Keene State had several chances to get on to board, but UMD junior goalie Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, Mass.) came up big. She made the save of the game at the 26:30 mark of the first half, denying a wide open freshman Lyndsie Rabenius (North Hampton, N.H.), who was camped out right in front of the net.

With the game still scoreless, KSC freshman goalie Chloe Audesse (Goffstown, N.H.) came into the game and stopped a penalty stroke by freshman Ali Hadley (Chelmsford, Mass.).   The Owls also misconnected on the 11 penalty corner opportunities they had in the game.

Sophomore Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) finished the game with four saves.  O'Brien had three saves to post the shutout.

Watson said she was proud that her team went on the road and defeated second seed Bridgewater State (4-3) and got within a goal of top seed UMass-Dartmouth. "We only had three returning starters from last year's team, so to end up in the finals and losing by one goal in the finals on the road is a good season," she said.
