Box Score KEENE, N.H. 3/24/12 - Junior attack Taylor Jette (Simsbury, Conn.) tied his career high with six goals to lead the Keene State College men's lacrosse team to a 21-9 non-conference win over Roger Williams University at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
"We changed up a few of our formations," said Jette, who has a team high 14 goals. "We wanted to go back and keep things simple and put the ball in the net."
"I think this offensive set really compliments him and he's just hungry," said KSC Coach Mark Theriault. "Taylor does a real nice job with off-ball play. He was dodging hard and putting the ball in the net."
The Owls (2-4) who have been sputtering most of the season on offense, scored less than a minute into the game and led 6-2 after the first quarter. Jette netted four of the Owls first six goals.
A pair of man-up goals by junior J.T. Galloway (Simsbury, Conn.) and senior Ian Hart (Richmond, N.H.) to start the second quarter extended the Owls lead to 8-2. Following a RWU turnover, Jette put the Owls up 11-3 with his fifth goal of the game with 1:33 to play in the second quarter.
The Hawks (2-4) scored the last goal of the half and the first two goals of the third quarter to close the gap to 11-6. After the two teams traded goals, the Owls were able to kill off a two-man advantage by RWU with senior defenseman Alex Cuomo (Scituate, Mass.) scooping up a key ground ball to give the Owls' possession "That was a big ground ball," said Cuomo. "We were able to calm down and get the ball down to our offense which rode out the penalty."
That turned the tide for the Owls, who scored the next three goals to push their lead back up to 15-7 early in the fourth quarter. Keene State, which was successful in eight of their 13 man-up opportunities, netted three straight man-up goals due to locked-in penalties to go up 20-8 in the fourth quarter. KSC outshot the Hawks 60-30 and held their own (18-32) in the face-off circle.
Seniors Jonathan Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) scored three goals for the Owls. Seniors Matt Schairer (Wrentham, Mass.), Matt Crimmins (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Ian Hart (Richmond, N.H.) and brother freshman Ryan Hart (Richmond, N.H.) each netted two goals. Ian Hart and Schairer also had three assists each.
Junior Jason Leser (Brewster, N.Y.) played the first three quarters in goal for the Owls and registered five saves. Freshman Eric Palmer (Hinesburg, Vt.) with two saves and Jack Roger (Acton, Mass.) with one save also saw time between the pipes.
Freshmen Luke Aubrey (Albany, N.Y.) and Alex Peebles (Guilderland, N.Y.) each played a half in goal for Roger Williams. Aubrey made five saves and Peebles stopped four shots.
Keene State is off until next Saturday when it hosts Southern Maine in its first Little East Conference game of the season.
