KEENE, N.H. 4/10/12 – Junior attackman Taylor Jette (Simsbury, Conn.) and the Keene State College men's lacrosse team picked the right time to have their best offensive game of the year, as the Owls defeated the Connecticut College Camels 15-13, in a roller coaster non-conference win on Tuesday night at Owl Athletic Complex. With the win the Owls improved to 4-5 on the year, while the loss drops the Camels to 5-5 on the campaign.

"Offensively we have been slumping and this is exactly what we needed," said KSC head coach Mark Theriault. "Anytime you play a NESCAC team you know it is going to be a quality lacrosse game and we had one here tonight."

"The last few games we have been wanting to turn it around offensively," said Jette, who netted five goals and dished out two assists for seven points on the night. "It was a fast paced game and it was up and down for us, but we just wanted to stick to our game plan, and that's what we did."

The Owls scored the contest's first three goals in the first quarter, capped by junior JT Galloway's (Simsbury, Conn.) goal from Jette with 34 second remaining in the quarter. "It was important for us to get on the board early," said Jette. "We wanted to turn around our recent struggles offensively and build confidence."

After Conn. College's junior midfielder John Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) scored to give the Camels their first lead of the game at 5-4, KSC senior captain Matt Schairer (Wrentham, Mass.) scored with 2:32 left in the half on a rise ball to beat Conn. College netminder Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.) for the 6-4 advantage.

Conn. College tried to cut into the KSC lead with just seconds remaining in the half, but KSC junior goalie Jason Leser (Brewster, N.Y.) set aside sophomore midfielder Thomas Woessner's (Old Lyme, Conn.) point-blank shot to keep the 6-4 lead.

The Camels stormed out to a lead in the 2nd half, rattling five straight goals, including two goals in a matter of 33 seconds, from junior attackman Andrew Berry (Moorestown, N.J.) at the 8:16 and 7:43 marks of the 3rd quarter for the 9-6 advantage.

KSC would answer with a run of their own, with five straight goals, as Schairer would add a man-up goal with 14:11 in the fourth quarter. Jette would cap the run with an unassisted goal, squeezing his way through a few Camel defenders for his fourth goal of the game.

Trailing 14-10, Conn. College looked to cut into the lead, as junior midfielder Stephen Eicher (Northport, N.Y.) was all alone near the crease, but Leser came up with one of his six saves to keep the Owls ahead by four. "This was not Jason's (Leser) best game ever," said Theriault. "But he came up with some huge saves when we needed them."

On the ensuing possession, the Owls would run down the field, as Ian Hart (Richmond, N.H.) would find Jette for the 15-10 lead.

Conn. College, continuing the fight, scored three consecutive goals, two coming from Tyler Corcoran (Simsbury, Conn.), for the 15-13 final score.

Schairer and Ian Hart each had four points in the game behind Jette's seven. Galloway also netted multiple goals for the Owls in the win. Sophomore long-pole midfielder Andrew Fazio (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) and face-off man David Shaw (Acton, Mass.) each had five groundballs, while senior defender Sean LeBlanc (Simsbury, Conn.) scooped up a team-high six.

Lyons, Corcoran and Andrew Freedman (Sudbury, Mass.) each had three scores for the Camels. Corcoran also dished out two assists for a team-high five points. Face-off man Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, Mass.) went 17-of-31 for Conn. College with a game-high 11 groundballs.

Leser finished the game with six saves in the win for the Owls to improve to 4-3 on the year, while Moccia made 10 saves in the losing effort for Conn. College.

The Owls return to action this Saturday, as they will host Salem State in a Little East Conference matchup at 1 p.m. at Owl Athletic Complex. Conn. College returns home for Alumni and Senior day on Saturday, as they Will host Hamilton College for a 1 p.m. NESCAC contest.
