Colby-Sawyer downs Owls in women's volleyball 3-0

Box Score

KEENE, N.H. 9/18/12 – The Keene State women's volleyball team saw it three match winning streak come to an end with a 3-0 non-conference loss to Colby-Sawyer College at Spaulding Gym on Tuesday night.

Leading 24-20 in the opening game, the Owls (5-6) couldn't close it out.  A service and hitting error enabled the Chargers (4-6) to take the game 27-25.

Trailing 20-15, KSC came back to tie the second game five times before Colby-Sawyer won the last two points on a kill by junior Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) and a KSC hitting error to win 29-27.

The Chargers rolled to a 25-20 win the third game.

"There are 10 freshmen on this team and you don't know which ones are going to be playing well and any given time, and sometimes they flip midway through the match," said KSC Coach Bob Weiner.  "We tried every option we could to get as many players to play well at the same time and it didn't work.  So we struggled."

Freshman Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) led the Owls with 10 kills while sophomore Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, Va.) finished with a game high 16 digs.  Freshmen setters Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) and Haley Willumsen (Shelter Island, N.Y.) had 13 assists each.  Freshman Kaylee Deluga (Barnstable, Mass.) chipped in with nine kills, four digs and five blocks.

Sophomore Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) had 13 kills and a .435 hitting percentage to lead the Chargers.  Freshman setter Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) added 16 assists and three service aces.  Sophomore Sarah Hannon (Pocasett, Mass.) had five service aces and five digs while junior Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) finished the match with 13 digs.

Keene State hosts a tri-match with Eastern Conn. (12 p.m.) and Western New England on Saturday (4 p.m.). Colby-Sawyer returns home on Saturday to face Emerson College (11 a.m.) and Southern Vermont College (3 p.m.).
