Box Score KEENE, N.H. 10/213 – The Keene State College women's soccer team extended its winning streak to six games with a 5-0 Little East Conference shutout victory over Rhode Island College before an enthusiastic Homecoming crowd at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday night.
Keene State (8-2-1, 3-0 LEC) is tied with Western Conn. for first place in the Little East Conference. Rhode Island College (3-6-1, 03 LEC) is still looking for its first conference win of the season.
Senior Kara Pavlidis (Lee, N.H.) led the Owls with two goals and an assist.
Keene State jumped out to a 1-0 lead 31:32 of the first half when Pavlidis finished off a crossing ball from junior Beverly Cole (Madbury, N.H.)
RIC almost tied the game on a rare offensive opportunity in the first half. Junior Danielle Peloquin (Pawtucket, R.I.) had a direct kick just outside the box, but her drive hit off the post.
Keene State took advantage of its scoring chance two minutes later. Pavlidis sent a ball into the box that Hayley Kenyon (Exeter, R.I.), who had just entered the game, headed home to put the Owls up 2-0.
RIC junior goalie Audrey Maia (Norton, Mass.) temporarily kept it a two goal game later in the half when she stopped a bid by Pavlidis at the doorstep.
Keene State exploded with three goals in a span of six minutes in the second half to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Senior Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.) began the uprising when she converted a pass from classmate Kristen Huckins (Westmoreland, Mass.) a couple of minutes into the half.
Three minutes later, Cole made it 4-0 on a nice individual effort, going around a RIC defender and depositing the ball into the left corner of the net for her second goal of the season.
Pavlidis knocked in a rebound for her second goal of the game and her third of the season at the 37:48 mark to extend the Owls advantage to 5-0. "Coming into the game I knew I had to capitalize on my chances, because I missed a huge one in our last game," said Pavlidis. It was in the back of mind."
As far as the teams' success, Pavlidis said "we're connecting well as a team. We have great team chemistry and it's coming at the right time with all our conference games coming up."
Keene State outshot the Anchorwomen 30-9 and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) played the first 58:54 for the Owls and made two saves. Freshman Danielle Warhall (Spofford, N.H.) saw her first action of the season, playing the final 31:06 and also had a couple of saves.
Maia had a busy night in goal for RIC, stopping 13 shots.
Keene State hosts Castleton State on Monday (6:30 p.m.).
