Keene State ties up Middlebury in a suspended game 1-1

Box Score

KEENE, N.H. 9/11/13 – Keene State College battled Middlebury College to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference women's soccer game that was suspended at the 15:52 mark of the second half due to lightening at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

The two teams waited 30 minutes after play was suspended before the game was called.  Since the game went the allotted time, it will go in the books as a 1-1 tie.

With the tie, KSC's record goes to 2-1-1 on the season.

Middlebury (0-1-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring on a corner play less than two minutes into the game.  Junior Moria Sloan (Bethesda, Md.) sent the ball into the box and junior Carter Talgo (Rye, N.Y.), who was crashing the net, headed the ball home to put the Panthers on top.

The Panthers had another chance to score later in the half, but KSC back Kelsie Bailey (Barre, Vt.) was able to track down Middlebury senior Scarlett Kirk (San Francisco, Ca.) who got behind the Owls' defense.

Pinned in their own end most of the half, KSC took advantage of a rare scoring opportunity to get the tying goal.  Following a corner kick by senior Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.), junior Maggie Grayson (Sugar Hill, Geo.) was able to get the ball over to sophomore Shannon Summers (Keene, N.H.) who got a toe on it, putting the ball just under the crossbar for her first goal of the season.

KSC dodged a couple of bullets at the 10 minute mark of the second half.  Senior Julia Favorito (Winchester, Mass.) had an open net, but her shot sailed just wide of the far post.  Less than a minute later, KSC junior goalie Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) came out of the net to smother a close-range bid by Talgo.

With 15:52 to play, the game was stopped due to lightening in the area and was not resumed after a 30 minute wait.

Middlebury outshot the Owls 10-5.  Crenson finished the game with six saves for KSC.  Freshman Kate Reinmuth (Olympia, Wash.) stopped three shots for the Panthers.

Keene State is at Colby sawyer on Saturday for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
