MEDFORD, MASS. 1/18/14 – The Keene State College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Tufts University Invitational at the Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center on Saturday.
Both teams finished in seventh place. The KSC women tallied 53 points with the Owl men had 49 points. Host Tufts won both team titles.
The Owls had a good day in field events. Junior Ben Keach (Newfields, N.H.) finished second (14.48m) and senior Dante Hill was third (14.30m) in the shot put. Keach was also sixth in the weight throw (13.82m).
Freshman Noah Macri (Nottingham, N.H.) took fifth in the pole vault (3.25m).
In the women's competition. Senior Sarah DiTonno (Wakefield, Mass.) finished second in the shot put (11.33m) and seventh in the weight throw (12.60m).
Sophomore Lucia Martin (Swanzey, N.H.) was fifth in the pole vault (2.60m).
Twin sisters Katelyn Terry (Strafford, N.H.) and Lindsey Terry (Strafford, N.H.) placed fifth (10.02m) and sixth (9.60m) respectively in the triple jump event.
The KSC women had a strong showing in the 600-meter race. Katelyn Terry was third (1:42.22), junior Kait Wheeler (Exeter, N.H.) was sixth (1:43.45) and sophomore Allison Brady (Weymouth, Mass.) was eighth (1:44.34). In the 800, sophomore Samantha Goldsmith (Derry, N.H.) was fourth (2:34.75) and senior Brianna Enderson (Manchester, N.H.) was fifth (2:34.86). Goldsmith was also fourth in the mile (5:26.03) while Wheeler placed sixth in the 1,000 (3:10.81).
The KSC 4x400 team of Katelyn Terry (Strafford, N.H.) and Lindsey Terry, Brady and sophomore Lauren Markoe (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) finished sixth with a time of 4:18.83.
The Keene State men's also had some strong performances on the track. Senior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) finished fifth in the 1,000 (2:39.39) and sixth in the 600 (125.85). Sophomore Hayden Patterson (Dover, N.H.) placed sixth in the mile (4:32.22) and seventh in the 800 (2:05.88).
In the mile, sophomore Ryan Brady (Durham, N.H.) was fourth (4:29.19) and freshman Patrick Chabot (Derry, N.H.) was eighth (4:38.97). Brady was also eighth in the 1,000 (2:41.57) while sophomore Devin Sanford (Holliston, Mass.) took eighth in the 400 (52.49).
Keene State will split its squad next weekend with some competitors competing at Boston University on Friday and others going to Smith College on Saturday.
