Box Score AMHERST, Mass.--No. 15 Amherst College scored twice in each half en route to a 4-0 win over Keene State College in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Keene State, which had a three game winning streak with the loss, is now 8-7 on the season. The Lord Jeffs improve to 10-2.
Amherst picked up the opening goal of the game in the 13th minute. The Lord Jeffs took a short corner and Emma Rothkopf scored to the left of KSC 'keeper Dannielle Warhall. The Lord Jeffs doubled the lead in the 40th minute on Hannah Guzzi's goal from outside the box.
In the 49th minute, Sarah Zuckerman directed a free kick to Megan Kim, who then flicked it on to Abernethy, who headed the ball towards goal, but Owls' goalkeeper Torrie Crenson, who entered at the start of the second stanza, saved the shot.
Keene State answered with some sustained pressure of its own as Alex Haley headed a Jennifer Wilson corner kick over the crossbar, before Taylor Farland blasted a shot that Amherst's Holly Burwick turned away.
In the 71st and 73rd minutes, Keene State was awarded a pair of corners and Megan Costello and Haley each headed the ball over the goal each time, with Haley's shot striking the crossbar.
Brittany Tolla then had an opportunity just inside the 18-yard box but Jessy Hale blocked the attempt, and Tolla's ensuing shot sailed wide left of target.
At the 77:23 mark, Hale lofted a corner kick to Phillips who was crashing the net, and she headed the ball into the net to give Amherst a 3-0 lead.
In the 84th minute, the Purple & White struck again when Alison Neveu '18 crossed a ball to Kim who volleyed it into the back of the net to give the Jeffs a 4-0 lead.
Warhall finished with two saves for the Owls, while Crenson added four saves.
KSC returns to Little East action on Saturday, traveling to Boston for a showdown with league leaders UMass Boston. The Jeffs return to NESCAC action on Saturday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Wesleyan for a 2:30 p.m. contest with the Cardinals.
