WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.--Junior Samantha Goldsmith ran to All-Region honors with a 13th place finish at the NCAA Regional Race at Mount Greylock High School on Saturday.
Goldsmith's finish in 22:21.3 more than likely gives her a spot in the NCAA National Championship meet, held on November 22 at the Golf Center at King's Island, in Mason, Ohio, hosted by Wilmington College.
No. 4 MIT, which won the race with a team score of 40, and No. 3 Middlebury, second with 65, earned the automatic team bids to the NCAA championships. 56 individual finishers are selected from teams that did not automatically qualify, coming from the top seven non-team qualifiers in each region.
Official announcement of the selection will come later this week.
Goldsmith led a flock of Owls that placed all seven of their runners in the top 100, in a field of 387. Kait Wheeler was 47th overall, with a time of 23:10.1, ahead of Lindsay Szuch, in 23:21.1, Kaley Mientkiewicz in 23:26.8, Carli Davis in 23:29.8, Lauren Markoe in 23:38.7, and Molly Schaefer in 23:54.4.
The Owls placed seventh overall, ahead of nationally ranked Colby College, and just behind MIT, Middlebury, Williams, Amherst, Wellesley, and Tufts. Sarah Quinn of MIT was the individual medalist in 21:39.9.
