NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Ben Keach won two events as the Keene State College track and field team opened up the 2014-15 season at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday.
Keach set a personal best in the shot put, throwing 15.40 meters to qualify for the Open New England, ECAC, and New England Division III Championships. Keach's toss is currently third in NCAA Division III.
Keach also was the top collegiate thrower in the weight, with a toss of 13.84 meters.
Eric Dietz won the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.82, and was part of the 4x400 meter relay team with Quentin Bazarnicki, Ian MacLeod, and Devin Sanford that placed second in 3:32.26.
The KSC women fared equally well, with six members of the squad qualifying for postseason meets. Katelyn Terry won both the 400 and 800 meter races, taking the 400 in a New England Division III and ECAC qualifying time of 59.68. She won the 800 meters in 2:29.33
Karissa Bergman set personal bests in both the shot put and weight throw, taking second in the shot put with a throw of 11.58 meters and a 13.07 throw in the weight. Bergmann is also headed to the ECAC and New England Division III Championships.
Also heading to both the New England Division III Championships and ECAC Championship is Kaley Mientkiewicz, who took second in the 5,000 meters with a personal best of 18.34.35, as is Kait Wheeler, who placed fourth in the mile in 5:12.31.
Lindsay Terry punched her ticket to the New England Division III Championships, with a time of 1:43.86 in the 600 meters, and joining her will be Molly Schaefer, who placed fifth in the 5,000 meters with a personal best of 18:57.13.
