STORRS, Conn.--Swimming in their first competitive meet for
three weeks, the Keene State College swimming and diving teams got
solid performances at the non-scoring Husky Invitational at the
University of Connecticut on Saturday.
Facing exclusively Division I competition, the KSC men got a win
from Randy Dunton
(St. Cloud, Fla.) in the 200 yard individual medley in a time of
1:55.72. Tyler
Tambascio (Greenwich, Conn.) added a third place finish in the
100 breastroke with a time of 1:00.46, just .01 out of second
place, with Dunton finishing in a tie for fourth in 1:00.73.
Jimmy Norris (Ansonia, Conn.) also finished third in the 200
yard backstroke in 1:54.79, in a race where just a second separated
first through third. Norris also finished third in the 100
yard backstroke in 53.58 seconds. The 100 yard butterfly was
equally as close, with 1.1 seconds between the top five places.
KSC's Aidan Quinn
(Groton, Conn.) clocked in fourth place in 53.32.
Zach
Carroll (Derby, Conn.) placed fourth in the 100 yard freestyle,
in 48.04, as did Dustin Whyte
(Wrentham, Mass.) in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:03.43.
Carroll also finished sixth in the 50 yard freestyle in
21.95, half a second out of first place.
The Keene State women also had several standouts, including
Gabrielle Brzozowski (Rocky Hill, Conn.), who set a
season best in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:23.12, and Lexi Houser
(New Hope, Pa.), who did the same in the 100 yard fly in 1:02.02.
The Owls' Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) added a 10th
place finish in the 200 yard IM in 2:18.24.
Keene State will have their final tune-up for the NCAA Division
III Championships at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and
Diving Association Championships at the University of Rhode Island
from February 14-16.
