SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Samantha Goldsmith won the 5,000 meters as the Keene State College track and field teams took part in the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday. Both the men's and women's teams finished sixth - the women out of 12 teams and the men out of 10.
Goldsmith and teammate Carli Davis had the top two times in the 5,000 meters; Goldsmith won in 18:30.37, with Davis following up in 18:37.31.
Karisa Bergman took third place in the shotput with a throw of 11.16 meters, in an event where .14 meters separated first through fifth place. Berman was also fourth in the discus (32.62 m), while Sarah DiTonno was third in the hammer with a mark of 40.06 meters. Nicole Marrero was second in the javelin, throwing 35.08 meters.
In another extremely close race, Katelyn Terry finished third in the 400 meters in 59.99 seconds. Less than half a second marked the difference between first, second, and third.
Keene State's men's team were paced by Hayden Patterson, who finished in fourth place in the 1,500 meters in 4:11.08, while Ryan Brady and Mark Rabasco ran 3-4 in the 5,000 meters. Brady finished in 15:51.95, ahead of Rabasco, who finished in 15:56.11.
The foursome of Eric Dietz, James Stergis Cox, Devin Sanford, and Logan Duffley finished second in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:35.26, while grouping of Patrick Chabot, Christopher Plankey, Roger Wilkie, and Jay Borden won the 4x800 meters in 8:49.64.
Angus Fisher was third in the discus, throwing 42.56 meters, with teammate Ben Keach fourth, throwing 42.29 meters. Keach was also sixth in the javelin with a throw of 49.63 meters.
