Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Emily McLarnon's 38th minute goal proved to be the difference as Johnson & Wales University topped Keene State College, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer action at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening.
KSC saw its three game win streak come to an end, and is now 5-4 overall this season. Johnson & Wales improves to 6-4. It was the seventh KSC game this season decided by one goal.
The Owls, who outshot the Wildcats 11-3 on the night, could not turn their offensive pressure into goals. Chloe Loos' long range effort bounced wide in the 12th minute, while Brittany Tolla's shot was wrapped up by JWU goalie Alex Place in the 20th.
Johnson & Wales made the breakthrough in the 38th minute when McLarnon collected a pass and rolled the ball into the back of the net past the dive of KSC goalie Torrie Crenson.
The Owls piled on the pressure in the second half, with Taylor Farland forcing Place into a save 57 seconds after the restart. The best chance for KSC came in the 75th minute, as Shannon Summers crossed for Beverly Cole, whose first time shot was blocked by Place.
Farland's attempt with three minutes remaining was again stopped by Place, who made seven stops. KSC counterpart Torrie Crenson made one save.
The Owls will be back on the road this weekend, traveling to Eastern Connecticut State University for a 1 p.m. Little East Conference matchup on Saturday.
