Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Tom Doyle continued his scoring streak, netting 15 of his 23 points after halftime to lead Keene State College to a 92-78 win over UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Spaulding Gym.
Doyle, who has scored 20 points or more in three straight games, was one of four Owls in double-digits. Lucas Hammel had 13 points and 11 assists, while Matt Ozzella and Dizel Wright also added 13 points apiece. Nate Howard had yet another double-double, with 10 points and 15 rebounds, chipping in three blocked shots to boot.
KSC dominated the glass, outrebounding the Corsairs 58-41, including 22-17 on the offensive end. Jaquel Edwards and Jeff Lunn each had 10 boards. The Owls also limited Jordan Rezendes, the LEC's leading scoring coming in at 23.7 points per game, to a mere seven points.
A close game saw the Owls take a 12-8 lead on Wright's layup, but the Corsairs rattled off five straight points on a bucket from Wale Abraham and a triple by John Genkos. Keene State went up 20-17 on Paul Emdin's layup with 8:14 left in the first half, only to see the Corsairs go up 34-29 on a triple from Josh Castillo.
Castillo's free throw with no time on the clock made it 38-33 at halftime.
KSC roared out of the blocks in the second half, embarking on a 18-10 run over the first five minutes capped by Carlos Ovalle's layup for a 51-48 lead. Castillo's layup cut it to 57-55 with 10:17 to go, only to see Doyle respond with five straight points - a long triple from the left wing and a layup off a pass from Dizel Wright.
Still the Corsairs came back, going up 62-61 on Cody Borges' layup, but another three from Doyle and consecutive baskets by Ozzella made it a 70-62 game with 7:35 to play.
UMass Dartmouth got within three with 5:23 to go on a basket by Jon Robinson, but KSC closed out the game outscoring the Corsairs 20-9 over the final five minutes
"I'm proud of the way our kids responded," said head coach Rob Colbert. "We've played three games this week, and I didn't think we had a lot of juice in the first half. In the second half we stuck to our scouting report, and limited their shooters."
Keene State remaings at home on Tuesday night, hosting league leaders Eastern Connecticut State University at 7:30 p.m. The Corsairs host UMass Boston on the same night at the same time.
