Box Score BOSTON, Mass.--The Keene State College men's basketball team fell 96-72 to the University of Massachusetts Boston on Sunday in Little East Conference action on Sunday. The game was postponed from Saturday due to snow in the New England region.
Tom Doyle led KSC with 18 points. Nate Howard had 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench, and Dizel Wright was the only other player in double-figures, adding 12.
The Owls are now 13-4, and 4-3 in the LEC. UMass Boston is 10-8, and 2-5 in the league.
Five straight points from Howard gave KSC a 14-13 lead with 12:06 on the clock, and the game went back and forth until the Beacons took the lead at 24-23 on two free throws from Joseph with 8:03 to play.
The Beacons closed out the half on a 24-6 run over the final eight minutes, capped by Gregory Young's layup with 54 seconds to go.
Keene State pulled within 14 on Matt Ozzella's layup with 14 minutes to go, but could not get closer as UMass Boston pulled away.
"We didn't compete at all in the first half. I didn't have them ready to compete at the level we needed," said head coach Rob Colbert.
The Owls shot just 2-for-18 from three point range. "We just lived out there," Colbert said. "We didn't take the fight to them. We were more than content to use the driver, so to speak."
"This was a tougher game than Thursday. Until we get ourselves in an incredible hole, then we compete. That's not the way you compete in this league."
The Beacons placed five players in double-figures, led by 22 form Luc Ulysse. Carl Joseph, who had scored 35 points in the previous matchup this season, had 19 points, while Gregory Young had 19, Omar Benabicha 12, and Karl Agenor had 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Keene State will host Plymouth State in a game scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Beacons host the University of Southern Maine on that same evening.
