Box Score KEENE, N.H.--A strong effort in goal from Danielle Warhall was not enough as the Keene State College women's soccer team slipped to a 3-0 loss to No. 19 Amherst College on Tuesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.
Keene State falls to 7-4-2, while the Lord Jeffs improve to 7-2-1.
Keene State began the game on the attack, as Taylor Farland forced a save out of Holly Burwick in the fourth minute, and just a minute later, Patricia Norton bore down on goal but fired wide.
The Lord Jeffs nicked the only goal they would need in the 17th minute when leading scorer Emily Hester fired in her fifth of the season after passes from Maeve McNamara and Megan Kim.
In the second half, McNamara powered a header towards goal, but Jennifer Wilson lept to clear the ball off the line in the 56th minute.
Warhall made a terrific double-stop on Eden Charles, but the follow-up from Meredith Manley found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, and 35 seconds later, McNamara made sure of the win with her second of the year.
Warhall made another stop on Rachel Abernathy to keep the game at 3-0. The junior stopper finished four saves, while Burwick made three for the Lord Jeffs.
Keene State heads to Smith College on Thursday for a game that begins at 4 p.m. Amherst plays a NESCAC contest on the road at Colby College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
