Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Emily Becher's goal in the 24th minute proved to be the difference as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team edged Keene State College, 1-0, in Little East Conference play at Owl Athletic Complex.
KSC saw a four game win streak come to an end, and suffered its first conference loss of the season - the Owls now have an overall record of 5-3-1, and are 2-1 in the LEC. ECSU improves to 7-2-1, and 3-0 in LEC play.
Despite being outshot 14-5, the Warriors got the only goal of the game when Becher corralled a loose ball and beat KSC goalie Dani Warhall to the far post.
The Owls came back with a near immediate response, but Patricia Norton's shot was straight at Warriors' goalie Rachel Skelton.
Still trailing at halftime, KSC cranked up the pressure; Brittany Tolla was streaking in on goal, but Skelton came out to deny the shot in the 60th minute. Two minutes later, Tolla had Skelton beat with a shot from eight yards out, but a Warriors' defender cleared the ball off the line and kept Keene State off the scoreboard.
Freshman Tyrah Urie's effort in the 80th minute met the intersection of post and crossbar as KSC searched for an equalizer, but could not find a way past Skelton and the ECSU defense.
The Owls will be back on the pitch on Monday at 6:30 p.m., hosting Middlebury College in a makeup game from September 30. The Warriors travel to Endicott on October 7 for a 7 p.m. start.
