NEW LONDON, Conn.--Seniors Samantha Goldsmith and Kait Wheeler both ran in the top 15 as the Keene State College women's cross country team finished sixth at the NCAA Regional Race at Harkness Memorial State Park on Saturday.
Wheeler and Goldsmith, who were named as All-Region by virture of their results, are in the mix for potential NCAA berths. The field of runners will be announced later this week. Williams and Tufts qualified as the top two finishing teams; the rest of the field will be filled out by the top 56 runners from non-qualifiying teams throughout the nation.
Last season, Goldsmith qualified with a 14th place finish.
Wheeler led the way for Keene State by finishing 14th overall in 22:03.3. Goldsmith was fractions of a second behind in 22:03.6 in 15th place. Carli Davis was 24th overall in 22:11.0, followed by Lindsay Szuch in 54th in 22:53.3, and Molly Schaefer rounded out the scoring in 23:07.9. Davis was also an All-Region honoree.
The KSC men, led by a 23rd place finish from Hayden Patterson, placed 12th overall in 25:26.30. Patterson is also inline for a potential individual place. Patterson picked up an All-Region nod with his finish.
Phillip Parent was 32nd overall in 25:35.7, followed by Iid Sheikh-Yusuf in 26:22.0 (87th place), Matt Marchand (26:29.6, 98th place), and Mark Rabasco (26:52.0, 116th).
