Norton, MA. – The Keene State swimming & diving teams traveled to Wheaton College on Saturday for a tri-meet against the home team and Springfield College. The men's team bested both teams, beating Springfield 206-94 and Wheaton 190-108. The women's team split the results, beating Wheaton 184.50-108.50, but falling to Springfield 175-123.
Hope Walsh led the women's team placing first in three individual events. She dominated the 500 (5:13.14) and 1,000 (10:53.33) freestyles, and finished strong to take the 200 backstroke (2:14.48) by less than a second.
Senior Alison Bartlett once again lowered her 50 freestyle time for the season, winning the event in 23.64 seconds. She also took the 100 freestyle in 53.21. Classmates Katherine Brady and Brianna Laliberte had standout days, claiming the 200 butterfly (2:15.27) and 100 backstroke (1:02.60), respectively.
On the men's side, the Owls led the meet from start to finish, winning 13 of 16 swimming events. The team of Chris Barriss, Ethan Etheridge, Cole Hogg and Gregory Youngstrom took the 200 medley relay in 1:36.22 touching just ahead of Wheaton.
Individually, Barriss won the 100 backstroke (52.69), Hogg the 100 (52.68) and 200 butterfly (1:59.41) and 200 IM (1:59.93), and Youngstrom the 50 freestyle (21.32). Junior Ryan Boraski also had an impressive day winning the 100 (46.49) and 200 (1:45.36) freestyles.
The distance duo of senior Matthew Ahlberg and junior Graham Lott split the long events at Wheaton, with Ahlberg cruising to victory in the 1,000 (10:11.60) and Lott controlling the 500 (4:55.46) from start to finish.
Both the men's and women's teams had great races giving them many second and third place finishes as well. Youngstrom, seniors Logan Duffley and Dustin Whyte, and sophomore Antony Hubbard all had vital second-place supporting finishes for the Owls.
The Owls dive back into competition Dec. 4-6 at the MIT Winter Invitational.
