Owls Pull Away From Bowdoin for 18-13 Victory

KEENE, N.H. - Rob Hart and Tyler Reilly each scored five goals and added an assist for the Keene State College men's lacrosse en route to a 18-13 win over Bowdoin College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Owls improve to 2-2, while the Polar Bears remain winless at 0-3.

Reilly and McKelvie scored the first two goals of the game, which was quickly answered by four scores by the Polar Bears, giving them a 4-2 lead with 16 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. Bryan Rotatori found Reilly with six seconds left as the Owls came to within 4-3 going into the second. 

The Owls played an excellent second quarter, outscoring the Polar Bears 4-1 on goals by four different Keene State players to go into halftime up 7-5.

Both teams played an even 3rd quarter, scoring four goals apiece.

KSC used the first three minutes of the fourth quarter to pull away as Rob Hart added two and Bryan Rotatori found the back of the net, giving the Owls a 14-9 lead with 12:05 remaining in the contest.

Owls goalkeeper Dylan Florian made two huge plays late in the fourth as he saved a Matthew Crowell shot, carried the ball upfield, finding Jeff Hatheway as Keene State took a 17-11 lead with 4:02 left in the game. The Polar Bears responded with a goal a minute later, but Rob Hart notched his fifth score at the 2:35 mark to give the home team a 18-12 advantage.

Rotatori totaled six points for Keene State on three goals and three assists. McKelvie finished with three goals, while Ryan Hart and Jeff Hatheway each added a goal. Junior Dylan Florian made 13 saves.

The Polar Bears were lead by David Nemirov's five goals and one assist, while Brandon Rothman recorded four tallies. Peter Mumford made 14 stops in the loss.

KSC had advantages in shots (53-44) and groundballs (44-40) and was more effeicient , turning the ball over 16 times compared to 21 by Bowdoin.

The Owls will head down to Florida for a March 16 match against SUNY Geneseo at 2:30 p.m. at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. Bowdoin looks to earn their first win of the season Saturday against Hamilton.
