Box Score KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State College men's lacrosse team used a 10 goal first quarter to pull away from UMass Boston in the Owls' 22-8 win Wednesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.
With the win, KSC improves to 7-4 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0. The Beacons drop to 4-8, 0-4.
Tyler McKelvie led the offense for the Owls with six goals, followed by three goals apiece for Rob Hart and Jake Genest. In total, 10 different players scored for KSC.
Michael Kennedy and Donny Delpha each notched three goals for the Beacons. Noah Ellis was limited to only one assist by the Keene State defense.
Ryan Hart tallied two unassisted goals to open the game which was answered by a Kennedy goal at the 8:32 mark. Over the next 6:30, the Owls went on a run of six-straight goals, including three by McKelive and two by Rob Hart for a 10-1 advantage. John Powers added a score for the Beacons with 1:23 left in the first quarter.
After two goals by UMass Boston to start the second quarter, the Owls responded by scoring five unaswered goals, three of which came from McKelvie for a 15-4 halftime lead.
The Owls had a strong third quarter outscoring the visitors 5-1. The Beacons added three more goals in the fourth quarter, compared to two scores for the Owls for the 22-8 final score.
All four goalkeepers played for the Owls, with Dylan Florian earning the win. Freshman Mat Howe made five saves while playing the fourth quarter. AJ Collette and Craig Frehill combined to make 15 stops for the Beacons.
Keene State finished with a 54-21 advantage in shots and collected 58 ground balls combared to 28 for the visitors.
KSC returns to action Saturday at Southern Maine at 12 p.m.
