Owls Run Past Huskies, 19-7

GORHAM, Maine - Tyler McKelvie and Tyler Reilly combined for 11 goals in the Owls 19-7 thumping of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated in Little East Conference play.

With the win, the Owls improve to 8-4, 5-0 and sets up a meeting with Plymouth State Tuesday night at 5 p.m. in a battle for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

In addition to Reilly's six goals, he also added three assists. Rob Hart finished the game with three goals, two helpers and Frank Bacarella recorded two goals, one assist for the Owls.

Burleigh Desjardins scored a team-high three goals for the Huskies, while Sam Hornblower collected four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

A McKelvie goal and two tallies by Reilly gave KSC a 3-0 lead 3:30 into the opening quarter. Desjardins put the Huskies on the board at the 9:44 mark but the Owls would tack on two more making the score 5-1. Both teams exchanged goals to close out the first.

The Owls pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Southern Maine 8-1 for a 14-3 lead at halftime.

The Huskies opened the send half with an Austin Watts goal in which the Owls responded by scoring the next five all by different players. Keegan Smith added another Huskies goal with 35 seconds left in the quarter. USM scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter.

Goalkeepers Dylan Florian and Jack Rogers each played a half for the Owls, combining to make 13 saves. Zach Bessette and John Bossi split the game and totaled seven games.

KSC held the advantage in ground balls 34-25, while USM had a 45-42 edge in shots.
