McKelvie Becomes KSC's All-Time Goal Leader In 14-10 Win Over Nichols

Box Score

DAVENPORT, Fla.--Keene State College senior attackman Tyler McKelvie broke the school record for goals as No. 19 Keene State defeated Nichols College 14-10 at Northeast Regional Park on Thursday.

Records

  • Keene State: 3-2
  • Nichols: 1-4

Up Next

  • Keene State will return to New England for a road matchup at Bates on March 23.
  • Nichols heads to Mitchell College on the same day.

Tale of the Tape

  • McKelvie, who had three goals in KSC's 12-11 loss to Hamilton on Tuesday, came into today needing four goals to surpass the 169 scored by Griffin Meehan from 2008-11, and that's exactly what he got, along with an assist.
  • Tyler Reilly had three goals and three assists, while Bryan Rotatori, Rob Hart, and Frank Bacarella each had two goals.
  • Mathew Howe had eight saves for KSC.  Counterparts Brian McKinley (nine saves) and James Keane (five) each played a half for the Bison.
  • Anthony Verville led Nichols with four goals.

First Half Highlights

  • Nichols struck first through Jack Zaremski, but Keene State got the next four, first from McKelvie and three from Reilly, to lead 4-1 after the first quarter.
  • KSC picked up where they left off in the second quarter, as JJ Downey opened the scoring at the 14:10 mark.  After Verville and McKelvie traded goals, Nichols scored the next three, two fron Tyler Sikich and another from Zaremski to trim the lead to 6-5.
  • Rob Hart scored the next one for Keene State, then set up McKelvie for the record-tying goal with 58 seconds left in the half to give Keene State an 8-5 lead at the break.

Second Half Highlights

  • The two teams alternated goals in the third quarter, as Rotatori, Bacarella, and Hart scored for Keene State, while Verville, Paul Tessier, and Brayden Carroll scored for the Bison.
  • The Owls put the game out of reach with the first three goals of the fourth quarter.  Hart set up Rotatori for a 12-8 lead, and McKelvie wrote his place into the record books with pass from Paul Beling, followed by another from Bacarella that made it 14-8.
  • Verville got two back for Nichols to set the final score.
