Men's Lacrosse Stuffs No. 8 Bowdoin, 13-12

BRUNSWICK, Maine--Down 7-1 at the end of the first quarter, the Keene State College men's lacrosse team outscored No. 8 Bowdoin 12-5 over the rest of the game for a 13-12 win over the Polar Bears on Tuesday night.

Tale of the Tape

  • Keene State picked up their second win over a ranked team this year.  The Owls also defeated then No. 20 RPI on February 27.
  • The Owls have now won four straight, while ending Bowdoin's nine game winning streak.
  • Bryan Rotatori led the Keene State offense with four goals and an assist, while Tyler McKelvie had two goals and three assists, Tyler Reilly had three goals, and Hunter Arnold had two goals and two assists.
  • Mathew Howe had seven saves, including a critical stop on Daniel Buckman with 52 seconds remaining.  Counterpart Peter Mumford made 13 saves.
  • The Polar Bears got four goals from Brett Kujala, but Keene State limited Bowdoin leading scorer Shawn Daly to a single goal.

First Half Highlights

  • Rotatori opened the scoring for Keene State 47 seconds into the game, but the Owls were shutout the rest of the quarter.  It took Bowdoin nearly seven minutes to tie the game with Kujala's first of the night, and the goals continued for the Polar Bears, with unassisted tallies from Sam Carlin and Brandon Lee to make it 3-1.
  • Another from Kujala, as well as two goals from Peter Reuter and another from Bily Vallie made it 7-1 at the end of the first quarter.
  • KSC began to chip away in the second period, as Rotatori again opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 13:06 mark.  Paul Beling fed McKelvie for another goal, and though Kujala scored again for an 8-3 lead, Reilly got his first of the night to cut the gap to 8-4 at halftime.



Second Half Highlights

  • The Owls came out of the gates roaring, putting their own 7-1 scoreline on Bowdoin, including the first five goals of the period.  Three goals in two minutes pulled the Owls within 8-7, and Rotatori tied the game with an assist from Rob Hart at 4:56.  Hart then scored an unassisted goal for the first KSC lead of the game.
  • Bowdoin tied the game with Daly's goal, but Arnold's second of the game and another from Rotatori gave KSC an 11-9 lead after three.
  • The teams traded goals to open the fourth quarter, and the Polar Bears' Alex Osgood pulled Bowdoin within a goal with 10:25 to go.  
  • Reilly gave the Owls a two goal lead with 3:35 left, an important goal after Kujala scored with a man-advantage with 2:19 left.   Buckman had the best chance to force overtime, but Howe stoned him in the final minute, and KSC ran out the clock, finishing out the game with a two-man advantage.
