Arnold, McKelvie Lead KSC Past UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass.--The Keene State College men's lacrosse team netted the first five goals of the game and never looked back in an 18-9 win over UMass Boston on Saturday at James Cotter Field.

Tale of the Tape

  • Arnold and McKelvie both had four goals, while McKelvie added three assists.  Bryan Rotatori had a goal and four assists, and Tyler Reilly had three goals and two helpers.  Paul Beling netted twice and set up one more, while Ryan Askham, Jon Nassif, James Dowd, and Mitch Hale all had one goal apiece.
  • Dowd won 10 of 19 faceoffs, and picked up six ground balls.   Mathew Howe made 15 saves and also had five groundballs.
  • Conor Smith paced UMB with four goals, and Matthew Duggan had three.  KSC outshot the Beacons 54-41.


First Half Higlights

  • KSC raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter.  Rotatori opened the scored off a pass from Beling, and Reilly scored to double the lead less than two minutes later.
  • Arnold netted an unassisted tally, and after McKelvie scored courtesy of a pass from Rotatori, Arnold scored again off a Rob Hart pass.
  • The Beacons got on the board with 4:23 left in the first quarter with a goal from Jack Dillon, and made it 5-2 with Duggan's first of the game.
  • Reilly and Duggan traded goals in the second quarter as KSC led 6-3 at halftime.


Second Half Highlights

  • The Beacons got goals from Duggan and Dino Flori either side of a marker from Beling to cut the lead to 7-5 with 11:31 left in the third quarter.  KSC responded with seven straight goals to put the game out of reach.
  • Beling and McKelvie started the burst with unassisted tallies, followed by a goal from Askham.  Dowd won the ensuing faceoff and raced down field for his first of the season that made it 10-5.
  • McKelvie scored two more and Reilly added another for a 14-5 lead before Smith stopped the run with a man-down goal with 1:49 left in the third quarter.  Arnold got his third of the game with one second left in the period as KSC led 15-6.
  • Arnold got yet another with 12:25 left in the fourth quarter, and the Beacons never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.
