Men's Lacrosse Routs Western Connecticut State, 20-7

KEENE, N.H.--Six different players scored two goals as the Keene State College men's lacrosse team had their highest scoring output of the year with a 20-7 win over Western Connecticut State in Little East Conference action on Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.

Tale of the Tape

  • 16 different players notched a point, led by four goals and an assist from Jon Nassif, and three goals and two helpers from Rob Hart.
  • Frank Bacarella, Tyler McKelvie, Mitch Hale, and Berek Martichuski each had two goals apiece, while Ethan Cyr, Ryan Askham, Paul Belin, Bobby Carey, and Tyler Reilly had one.  Jake Genest had had three assists.
  • Mathew Howe and Alex Sharp each played a half in goal, with Howe making nine saves and Sharp, seeing his first action of the year, making seven.  
  • Keene State won 23 of 30 faceoffs, led by a sterling effort from James Dowd won 14 of his 17 attempts in the faceoff circle, while Mike McBournie won five of his six attempts and Nick Morin won four of seven.
  • The Colonials, who were outshot 55-20, got three goals from Nate Wilson and two from Jesse Beatty.

First Half Highlights

  • The Owls rolled to a 9-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.  Bryan Rotatori set up goals for Hart and Beling on either side of Ryan Askham's unassisted tally, and Hart fed Bacarella for a 4-0 lead with 8:23 left in the first period.
  • Western Connecticut got on the board with 7:45 left in the quarter, but KSC responded with the next five, including two from Hart and McKelvie, and one from Reilly.
  • The goals kept coming in the second quarter, as Cyr needed just 70 seconds to get his goal, and Chris Morgan setup Bacarella to make it 11-1.  Genest then had assists on goals from Nassif and Hale before Beatty scored to cut the lead to 13-2 at halftime.


Second Half Highlights

  • Nassif added two more third quarter goals, while Hale had his second of the game as KSC led 16-5 at the end of three.
  • The Colonials got within nine (16-7) on consecutive markers by Wilson, but the Owls responded with Bobby Carey's first collegiate goal and the first two this season from Martichuski.
