LEWISTON, Maine - The Keene State men's lacrosse team suffered a 21-8 setback in a non-conference contest to Bates on Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened 

Senior Jon Nassif scored the first goal off a feed from sophomore Dave Wiedenfeld just 1:37 into the game to get Keene State on the board. From there, Bates tallied four consecutive goals to hold a 4-1 lead at the end of the first stanza. The Bobcats opened the second quarter on a 5-0 run before Nassif registered the lone goal in the second quarter for the Owls, as Bates scored a final goal to push its advantage to 10-2 over Keene State going into halftime. 

The Bobcats would take a 13-2 leading just 1:57 into the third quarter, before the Owls found the back of the net twice, as senior Paul Beling finished off a pass from sophomore Anthony Marcella, followed by a strike from sophomore Connor Nolan off a feed from Wiedenfeld. Bates would close out the quarter on a 3-1 run over Keene State, with the Owls tacking on a goal off the stick of Wiedenfeld. Bates would outscore Keene State 5-3 in the final quarter, as senior Hunter Arnold, Marcella and Beling all found the back of the net. 

Inside the Crease 

• Nassif and Beling led the way for the Owls with two goals apiece, followed by one goal and one assist apiece from Marcella and Wiedenfeld. Freshman Matthew Lemke went 12-of-22 in face-offs, while junior Steve Hamel was six-of-nine. Lemke picked up a team-high six ground balls and Hamel grabbed five ground balls.
• Matt Chlastawa tallied a game-high seven goals and added three assists for the Bobcats, while Brendan Mullally chipped in three goals. 
• Keene State saw three different student-athletes between the pipes, as senior Mathew Howe made eight saves in 26:45 minutes, as freshman Chase Chamberlin and sophomore J.J. Tinney recorded one and three saves, respectively. Rob Strain registered 12 saves in 49:30 minutes for Bates, while Mitchell Drake stopped four. 
• The Owls held a 11-6 advantage in ground balls over the Bobcats in the fourth quarter, yet Bates held a 44-37 edge in ground balls and recorded 48 shots to Keene State's 41.
