KEENE, N.H. - Kayla Klein continued her torrid start to the season, scoring three goals for the second consecutive game as the Keene State College field hockey team coasted past Colby-Sawyer College 6-1 on Wednesday evening at Owl Athletic Complex.

How It Happened

Klein, who had a pair of goals in her freshman season, has now more than tripled that total as the Owls won for the fourth straight time to open the season.  KSC controlled the action for the vast majority of the game, but could not get anything by Chargers goalie Abby Ladd until the 14th minute when Julia Babbitt fed Klein for her first of the game.  Leading 1-0, the Owls were stopped on a pair of rapid-fire attempts by Ladd just a minute later, but eventually broke the game open with two goals in quick succession late in the first half.  Ally McCall fed Erica Stauffer at the 27:23 mark and, just 35 seconds later, Babbitt's third goal of the season resulted in a 3-0 lead.

The second half was more of the same, and also more of the same for Klein, as she scored from McKenna Blean a little over three minutes in.  Bookending halftime, KSC scored three goals in an 11-minute span.  Colby-Sawyer spoiled the shutout in the 57th minute when Bella Robinson scored, but Klein finished her second straight hat trick at 68:40.  Stauffer's tally off a penalty corner with no time on the clock set the final score.

Rachel Loseby got the start in goal for Keene State and did not need to make a save to improve to 4-0 on the season.  Jordan LaRaus (15:57) and Tess Whitney (6:49) also saw time in the cage.  Ladd (3-2) made 19 stops for the Chargers.

Penalty Strokes

• The Owls got points from five different players in the game.  In addition to Klein, Stauffer scored twice.  Babbitt had a goal and an assist, McCall had two helpers and Blean had one.
• KSC outshot Colby-Sawyer 25-2, including 19-1 on goal.  They also had a 10-1 edge on penalty corners.
• It was just the third all-time meeting between the two programs.  The Owls have taken all three.
• Keene State, which has outscored their opponents 15-5 on the season, was receiving votes in the most recent NFHCA Coaches Poll.
