How It Happened

The Owls used strong offensive performances from Dave Wiedenfeld, Anthony Marcella, Shane Molloy and Jordan Caito to run past UMass Boston 19-5 in the LEC opener. The first quarter was an offensive struggle for both sides with few goals, as JJ Downey gave KSC the lead at the 12:28 mark. The Beacons responded shortly after when Conor Lenfest scored an unassisted goal. Wiedenfeld then scored the final goal of the quarter with just under eight minutes remaining to give KSC a 2-1 lead.

The Beacons started the second quarter fast, when Lenfest put away his second goal of the game, before his teammate Darragh Fahey gave UMB the lead off a pass from Jack Riley. With 6:26 to go in the quarter, the Owls got rolling and ended the half on a 5-0 run. Anthony Marcella started the run with two quick goals off feeds from Bobby Carey and Wiedenfeld. John Morgan then joined the fun when he hit the back of the net off another Wiedenfeld pass. With 2:47 to go, Liam Flanagan scored on a blast from long distance, before Jordan Caito added another off a Connor Nolan assist. The 5-0 run gave the Owls a 7-3 lead at the half.

The third quarter started as the second ended for KSC, as the Owls scored the first five goals. Wiedenfeld provided the first three assists with his first to Carey, followed up by Caito. With 3:54 to go in the quarter, John Morgan netted his second of the game off another Wiedenfeld feed, which gave the Owls a commanding 12-3 lead. The Beacons finally got back on the board when Ned Parker scored an unassisted goal.

Less than a minute into the fourth, Wiedenfeld played provider yet again, as he found Caito who cooly slotted home his third of the game. Nolan then found the net off a Marcella feed, on a man-up opportunity to push the Owls lead to 10. Ned Parker then broke up the run for UMass Boston when he scored his second of the game.
