How It Happened

The Jumbos started off the contest with three straight goals, the first coming only 32 seconds in when Danny Murphy scored. Max Waldbaum and Nick Katz then tallied for Tufts to make the score 3-0. Shane Molloy got the Owls off the mark with an unassisted goal with 7:55 remaining in the first quarter. The Jumbos then continued their offensive pressure with four straight goals to push the lead to 7-1. John Morgan answered with his first goal of the season to bring the Owls back within five.

The game continued to be full of runs for Tufts, as they scored five unanswered to bring their lead to 12-2. Matt Treiber, Ben Connelly, Danny Murphy, Arend Broekmate and Max Waldbaum aided the 5-0 run. KSC responded shortly after, when Shane Molloy scored his second of the day coming off a Dave Wiedenfeld pass. Bobby Carey answered 40 second later with a goal of his own, off another Wiedenfeld helper. The Jumbos grabbed two more quick goals before the break to maintain a 14-4 lead.

The scoring slowed down in the third quarter as the Jumbos outscored the Owls 3-1, with the lone KSC goal coming from Shane Molloy, off an assist from Joe Nutting. This marked Molloy's first hat-trick of his career. Tufts then saw goals from Cole Salton and Cam Kelleher, before Wiedenfeld grabbed one back for the Owls. Ultimately, the Jumbos offensive firepower proved to be the difference, as they took the game 19-6.
