How it Happened
Keene State opened the abbreviated spring schedule, playing in their first Little East Conference competition since November 5, 2019 and hosted Rhode Island College for the first time since September 29, 2018 on Thursday night. Both goalkeepers had to stay sharp in the early goings as both the Anchorwomen and Owls fired shots on all cylinders forcing both Giannie Soto for Rhode Island College and
Abbie Terrinca for Keene State to come up with some early saves. In the 28
th minute, the Owls were first to break the ice when the freshman duo of
Rachel Souza and
Maya Baker struck for their first collegiate points of their careers.  Souza led Baker for a through ball up the middle and Baker made no mistake in potting her first goal as a member of the Owls, giving KSC the 1-0 advantage. In the first half, goalkeeper Giannie Soto came away with four saves, where Terrinca came away with the one save she had the opportunity to make. Keene State outshot the Anchorwomen 9-4 in the opening half, taking five shots on goal.Â
Â
It was Rhode Island College who wasted little time in the second half to tie up the score at one. Jayde Fernandes took a deep shot from outside of the box which found its way up and around the outstretched arm of Terrinca giving the Anchorwomen their first goal of the season. KSC responded in a big way, scoring the next three goals, including two additional goals from
Maya Baker, and the first of the evening from
Amanda Marshall. Baker registered her hattrick goal on a breakaway, dribbling by the Anchorwomen defenders and finishing to the bottom left side of the open cage, to give the Owls the 4-1 lead.Â
Â
Rhode Island College would not go away quietly in the second half as forward Alexandra Amore took a pass from Serena Forte and put the ball past
Abbie Terrinca and into the middle of the cage to cut the Owls lead to 4-2. Exactly three minutes later, KSC would get the second of the night from
Amanda Marshall when
Ashley Bates took a big shot that was saved by Giannie Soto, but bounced right onto the foot of Marshall, who slotted the ball into the open cage, putting the game virtually out of reach.
Amanda Marshall would tack on one final goal for the second Owls hat trick of the evening when Bates led Marshall in all alone giving KSC the 6-2 victory.Â
