Late Goals Lead to 3-3 Tie for Men’s Soccer

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Keene State College men's soccer team tied Westfield State University 3-3 Wednesday night at Alumni Field.

How it Happened
The lone goal in the first half came from Keene State when senior midfielder Declan Coughlin scored his fourth goal of the season at 18:46 to put Keene State ahead 1-0. Westfield State would tie the game at one at 64:33 with a goal by freshman midfielder Carter Hebert.
 
KSC then took control of the match by scoring two goals in a span of 24 seconds. The first goal came from sophomore forward Michael Mullen with an assist from Coughlin at 68:09. Then at 68:33, senior midfielder Denis Fleming picked up a goal to extend Keene State's lead to 3-1.
 
But with less than 10 minutes remaining, Hebert would lead Westfield State on a comeback. Hebert first scored at 81:40, and then again at 85:39 to tie the match at three.

  • This is the first match where Keene State tied its opponent since Sept. 10 at Western New England University, when the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

Keene State will host the University of Southern Maine at Dr. Ron Butcher Field on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. The team will honor seven players who have already graduated or are preparing to graduate after this season as part of Senior Day. Westfield State will play at Fitchburg State University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
