How It Happened

Five different Owls scored to lead 5-1 in the first quarter. Cioffi found Nathan Sickles five minutes into the first half to give the Owls a 1-0 lead over the Buccaneers. Keene State senior Shane Molloy netted his first goal of the game unassisted just minutes later. The Owls continued their run as Sickles set up freshman Giacomo Tedone for his second goal of the season and Colby Quiet found freshman Rex Maccarini for his fifth of the season. Maritime got on the scoreboard with just 25 seconds left in the first quarter. The Owls concluded the scoring in the first with a goal from Quiet assisted by Maccarini.

Keene State opened the second quarter the same way they started the first, with Maccarini netting his second assisted by Sickles, followed by a goal from Cioffi assisted by Joe Nutting. The Bucs took advantage with another man-up play for Mitchell Maida to tally his second goal of the game. Junior Ben Wright set up Tedone and Quiet assisted Nutting to maintain the Owls' lead. The Bucs went on a run, scoring three straight goals, only to be neutralized by goals from Sickles, Cioffi, and Maccarini to give the Owls a 12-5 lead at the end of the first half.

The start of the second half proved to be a defensive standoff, with both teams allowing only one goal. Cioffi would score the lone goal for the Owls in the quarter assisted by Quiet. Senior goalkeeper Chase Chamberlin allowed one goal in the final minutes, as the Owls led 13-6 heading into the final quarter.

The Owls and Bucs traded goals in the fourth quarter. Wright set up Nutting for his second, followed by Sickles unassisted for his third goal of the game. Cioffi concluded the scoring for Keene State with his fourth goal assisted by Nutting. The Bucs added their third and final goal of the quarter with less than a minute to go, as the Owls saw a 16-9 victory.
