Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Senior attackman
Joe Nutting netted four times, including the 100th goal of his career, as the Keene State College men's lacrosse team rolled to a 25-8 win over Salem State University at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Records:
- Keene State: 9-4, 5-1 LEC
- Salem State: 6-8, 0-6 LEC
How it Happened
The Owls scored early and often, racing out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and a 19-1 lead at halftime.Â
Colby Quiet netted the opener with less than four minutes played, and Nutting scored twice in less than a minute for a 3-0 lead.
Haeden Finerty, Nutting,
Rex Maccarini and
Manning Kirker all piled on goals to make it 7-0 with 5:45 left in the opening stanza, before Maccarini set up Nutting for his milestone marker. The goals continued to flow, as the Owls received goals from
Connor Woods and
Colby Quiet in the final 21 seconds for a 13-0 lead after the first period. Â
KSC would net three more times in the second period before Salem State got on the board courtesy of Sam Cioffi, but
Jason Madden,
Connor Brown, and
Garrett Fleury all scored for a 19-1 lead at the break.
The Owls hit the 20 goal mark for the fourth time on
Maxwell Leschen's goal in the third quarter, and salted away the win by outscoring the Vikings 5-3 in the final period.
Inside the Crease
- Chase Chamberlin started and played the first quarter, making six saves.  Charlie Giuliotti seven saves in the final three quarters.
- Despite missing the better part of two seasons to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nutting has fashioned an outstanding career that sees him sit in the top 20 for goals scored in KSC history.  His 100 goals ties Ian Hart (2010-13) for 15th all-time, while his 160 points is currently 17th all-time.
