How it Happened
Keene State would come out of the games firing, as
Kendall Healey,
Allison Yanski, and
Riley Devine would all get a shot on net within the first 11 minutes of the match, but the Vikings' goalkeeper, Lily Pfefferle would make three saves, keeping the game scoreless early. A couple minutes after her last save, the Owls would get a shot on goal that Pfefferle would not be able to save, as she was screened by
Riley Devine of KSC, and unable to see
Morgan Prates' shot coming from a corner piece from Avery Amalfitno that would find the back of the net, putting the Owls up 1-0 on Prates' first career collegiate goal. Salem State would try to even the game at one apiece shortly after as they would get a pair of shots on goal, but the Owls' goalkeeper,
Riley Andriski, would make a pair of saves, preserving the one goal lead. Keene State would get six shots off over the next eight minutes as two would be blocked by the Viking's defense, and Pfefferle would make four saves in net, compared to Andriski needing to make one save on the one shot from the Vikings over that time frame. Shortly after, Andriski would make one more save as the teams would head into halftime with the Owls leading, 1-0.
The second half saw the Owls outshoot the Vikings 7-3 in the final 45 minutes of play. A few minutes into the second half the Owls' first shot of the half would be saved by Pfefferle, while the Vikings' first shot would be a goal, as Sydney Durkin would send a corner kick into the box, where Brenna Paquette would assist Olivia Henke for the Vikings' equalizing goal seven minutes into the second half. In the 61
st minute, the Vikings looked to take the lead, but Andriski would make a save on Savannah Scrodin, keeping the game tied at one apiece. Soon after, the Owls would be on the attack, as they would get four shots off; two of the shots would be wide of the target, and Pfefferle would make a pair of saves, both coming against
Joclynn Tyler, as she would do her part in helping the Vikings stay in the game for the moment. Both teams would trade possessions the rest of the second half, with Keene State getting one more chance to score with under five minutes remaining, but Pfefferle would make another save, this time coming against
Alexa Skinner, and the match would end in a 1-1 draw.
Andriski finished the day with five saves, a season-high for her, while allowing one goal. Pfefferle made 11 saves in net, while allowing one goal in the match.
