KEENE, N.H.—The Keene State College men's basketball team remained at No. 5 in the latest D3hoops.com men's basketball national rankings.
Keene State (22-1, 14-0 LEC) received 515 points in the poll. The rest of the top five are also unchanged, beginning with the University of St. Joseph's (Conn.), the final undefeated team in NCAA Division III.
Randolph-Macon College (Va.), the defending national champions, remain at No. 2, followed by No. 3 Christopher Newport University (Va.) and No. 4 University of Mount Union (Ohio). The Owls were just two points behind the Purple Raiders and 32 points away from the Captains.
Statistically, the Owls are led in scoring by sophomore co-captain Octavio Brito, who is averaging 21.3 points per game and 6.2 rebounds, while shooting 49.6% from the field and 44.8% from three point range. Senior co-captain Jeff Hunter was named the Little East Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday, and is averaging 19 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game, shooting 62.7% from the floor.
Other contributors include junior guard Mason Jean Baptiste (10.8 ppg, 38% 3ptFG), sophomore guard Spencer Aronson (8.7 ppg, 38% 3ptFG), fifth year Jeric Cichon (7.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg), and junior guard Nate Snow (7.2 ppg, 3.8 apg).
The Owls have just two games remaining before the conclusion of the regular season. Keene State will travel to Castleton University on Wednesday night, needing just a win to claim the outright regular season championship. The regular season will end with a home date against the University of Massachusetts-Boston on February 18 at 3 p.m., which will also be Senior Day.
If the Owls win both games, they will become the first team in the history of the Little East Conference to complete a perfect slate of conference games since the league expanded to nine teams with the addition of Castleton University in 2018.
