Women's Soccer Draws 1-1 Against Colby-Sawyer to Open the Season

NEW LONDON N.H. – Sophomore midfielder Riley Devine netted her first goal of the season as the Keene State College women's soccer team salvaged a 1-1 draw with Colby-Sawyer College in the season opener for both teams.

Records
  • Keene State: 0-0-1
  • Colby-Sawyer: 0-0-1

How it Happened
The first goal of the contest would come for the Chargers, at 15:33 into the first half, as Chargers' captain Kara Keiper would net a shot from just inside the box to put Colby-Sawyer up 1-0. Neither team would score during the remainder of the first half, as the Chargers would head into halftime, up 1-0. Both teams would register four shots during the first 45 minutes of play, with three shots apiece being on goal.

The Owls changed goalies at the start of the second half, and sophomore Sonia Moritz would make an immediate impact, making two saves within the first five minutes of the second half. Both teams would trade possessions as the remainder of the second half went on, until Riley Devine would beat out two defenders to the ball and fire a shot up and over the arms of the Chargers' goalkeeper, finding the back of the net and knotting the game at one apiece with 14:11 left to play.

Keene State would look to score their second goal in a row down the stretch, but the Chargers' goalkeeper, Lyndsey Valletta, would make two saves, including one off an Alexa Skinner free kick with under a minute to go, leaving the game tied 1-1.
