How it Happened
USM was on the attack early in the opening half, but the Owls held them off over the first 22 minutes of the contest. Of the six shots from the Huskies over the timespan, two missed the target, while the Owls blocked another, and KSC's goalkeeper,
Riley Andriski, made three saves in goal for the Owls. 25:17 into the contest, the Huskies opened the scoring as Catriona Gould found the back of the net to put USM up a goal. After Andriski saved the next shot from the Huskies 24 seconds later, KSC looked to draw even on the other end of the field a minute later, but USM's goalkeeper, Madi Jordan denied
Christina Sanders from tying the game. In the 30th minute, Makyla Magid looked to add a goal of her own after assisting on Gould's first goal, but her shot would hit the crossbar and hold the Huskies lead to one. A minute later, Gould added another goal from Magid, as she tallied number 13 for the season to put USM up a pair. Andriski made one more save in net to close the game out, as USM took a 2-0 lead into the half.
Hannah Verville started the second half in goal for the Owls and saved the first two shot attempts that she saw in goal, coming in the 59th and 61st minute of the contest. In the 66th minute, Magid continued to rack up the assists, as she assisted Kiki Huntress for the Huskies' third goal of the game. Over the next 10 minutes, Verville made three saves in net for KSC, but USM tacked on their fourth goal in the 78th minute, as Bridgette Toland assisted Madi Sainis. After Jordan made a save on
Joclynn Tyler with 6:52 left to play, the Huskies tacked on three goals over a 1:46 span, coming from goals from each Meghan Przybulla (with another Magid assist), Sainis, and Julia McKenna. KSC was able to get on the board as
Katherine Burzlaff scored a goal with 60 seconds left, as the Owls avoided the shutout, but KSC suffered their worst loss to USM in program history on the day in the end with the 7-1 final for the Huskies.
