Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Secures LEC No. 4 Seed Despite 1-0 Loss to RIC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Keene State College men's soccer team traveled to take on Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon, looking to pick up a crucial Little East Conference win in their last LEC game of their 2024 regular season schedule. After a goal in the 38th minute from the Anchormen, KSC was unable to respond, as they fell 1-0, to finish 3-4-1 in conference play.

Records
  • Keene State: 4-9-3 (3-4-1 LEC)
  • Rhode Island: 10-4-1 (6-1 LEC)
How it Happened

The Owls attack tried to get ahead early as after what wound up being their only two corner kicks of the contest, KSC's three shot attempts all missed the target in the opening 20 minutes of play. The first shot on goal came from Sekou Kamara of RIC, but KSC's goalkeeper, Regan Racicot, denied the Anchormen from taking the lead 23:40 into the game. 5:05 later, Alex Nicolas tried his attempt to put KSC ahead, but Wesley Perrotto, RIC's goalkeeper, saved his shot. In the 38th minute, Kamara got revenge for Racicot saving his previous shot, as he put the Anchormen on the board with a goal from Michael Strain at the 37:42 mark in the contest. Neither team had another scoring opportunity the rest of the half, as RIC took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

RIC started the second half on the attack with eight shots over the first 25 minutes, but the Owls' defense did their part by not allowing a goal. Racicot made a pair of saves on the eight shots, while another four were blocked by the KSC defense and the remaining two went wide of the target. As the momentum shifted in the Owls' direction over the final 10 minutes of play in the contest, the Anchormen defense kept fouling the Owls attack to halt the KSC momentum, which resulted in three yellow cards for RIC. Late in the contest, with 1:14 left to play, the Owls had their best chance to draw even in the contest, but Caleb Harmon's shot for KSC was saved by Perrotto as the Anchormen held on to the 1-0 win over the Owls.

Inside the Box
  • With the loss, the Owls still lead the all-time series between the two schools, 24-8-2, but RIC has won the last four matchups by shutting out the Owls in every meeting and scoring nine goals across the four games.
  • RIC outshot the Owls 12-8, including 4-2 in shots on goal, with a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
  • Racicot made three saves in net, while Perrotto made a pair of saves across the contest.
  • With the loss, KSC is locked into the number four seed in the LEC conference standings, as they have the head-to-head tiebreaker over any of the teams that could tie with them in points.
