CASTLETON, Vt. – After a 1-0 Little East Conference win over Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon, the Keene State College men's soccer team repeated the score on Wednesday night as they traveled to Dave Wolk Stadium at Vermont State University Castleton and defeated the Spartans thanks to a goal from
Cristian Correa early on in the contest.
Records
- Keene State: 3-5-1 (2-1 LEC)
- Castleton: 2-5-3 (0-3 LEC)
How it Happened
KSC's offense was in action early as they got four shots off in the opening 13:08 of play. The Owls' fourth shot was the only one to reach the goal, but Correa capitalized on it, as he scored his second of the season, this time from
Caleb Harmon, to put KSC up a goal early on. Castleton answered right back over the next 14 minutes with five shots of their own, but of the two that reached the target, KSC's goalkeeper,
Regan Racicot, saved both opportunities. KSC looked to add to their lead later in the half, but
Alex Nicolas, who played hero in the 81st minute with the game-winning goal against ECSU in the Owls' last matchup, would have his shot blocked by a Spartan defender, and
Giacomo Sinopoli's shot attempt soared high of the net as KSC headed into the half up, 1-0.
Castleton was on the attack for the majority of the second half, as they outshot KSC, 10-0, although neither team recorded a shot on goal over 45 minutes of the second half. Castleton looked to strike 10 minutes into the second half following a corner kick attempt, but Liam Cramer's shot attempt for the Spartans went over the goal and KSC was able to hold onto their lead. Both teams traded possessions the remainder of the way through the contest, but in the 87th minute, Castleton once again had a corner kick that led to a shot from Jacques Alfani, but it was blocked by the Owls. In the 89th minute in their last chance Alfani had another shot, but it went wide right of the goal and KSC held on for the 1-0 win.
