Owls Denied Late Win, Draw 2-2 with Trailblazers

KEENE, N.H. – After going 2-0-1 over the past three games, the Keene State College men's soccer team looked to continue their unbeaten streak against the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday night at Dr. Ron Butcher Field. KSC was able to bring their streak to five unbeaten games in a row, although not in the way they would have liked to, as they picked up a 2-2 against the Trailblazers.

  • Keene State: 3-5-3 (2-1-1 LEC)
  • MCLA: 5-5-2 (1-1-1 MASCAC)
Postgame Interview (Matt Schmidt)

How it Happened
The Owls attack looked to score early in the opening half, as they got two shots on target over the opening 20 minutes of play, but the Trailblazers' goalkeeper, Oliver Le Lacheur, saved both of the shots to keep the game tied early on. MCLA recorded the next shot on goal, in the 38th minute, but the Owls' goalkeeper, Eldin Husanovic, saved the shot from Ryan Connors. Three minutes later, with 3:20 remaining in the half, Connors picked up an assist, as he sent a pass to Ethan Smith, who buried a shot into the back of the net to give MCLA a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

After Husanovic saved the first shot from the Trailblazers a minute in the second half, then on the other end of the field in the 60th minute, Alex Nicolas scored a goal for the Owls, to tie the game up at one apiece with a third of the game left to play. Le Lacheur saved the next shot for the Owls, shortly after the goal, but he was unable to save a shot from Nicholas Henao Vazquez, just 2:20 after Nicolas' goal, as Henao Vazquez put KSC up, 2-1, with 28:22 left on the clock. Le Lacheur saved the next two shots from KSC, from Martin Lubunga and Ali Alzawar over the next two minutes, then shortly after, MCLA drew even, as Mateo Phillips sent a bending shot around the outstretched hands of Husanovic, to tie the game up at two. The Owls applied the pressure on the attack the rest of the way, but Le Lacheur saved two more KSC shots, including one in the final minute on Reed Rampinelli, as the match ended in a 2-2 tie.
