Charlie Giuliotti made 18 saves in net for KSC, the offense was not able to outperform VC, as KSC fell, 14-9.
Records
- Keene State: 0-4
- Vassar College: 2-1
How it Happened
Keene State opened the scoring in the first quarter, as
Jack Ansart netted a man-up goal from
Rex Maccarini, just over five minutes into the quarter. The Brewers responded with three straight goals, coming over the next five minutes, coming from TJ Carl, Gavin Arcuri, and a man-up goal from Ian Zumpano, giving VC the lead with 4:50 in the first. Through the rest of the first, KSC evened the game up at three a piece, thanks to
Jaheim Lancaster and
Colby Quiet each scoring their first goals on the season, and a pair of his five saves in net by KSC goalkeeper,
Charlie Giuliotti, coming in the final seconds of the first 15 minutes of play.
Vassar started to pull ahead in the second quarter, as they outscored the Owls 5-3, thanks to outshooting KSC, 15-7. Of the six shots on goal by the Brewers in the first 5:18 in the second quarter, Giuliotti made five saves in net, only allowing one shot past him, as Matteo Roman put Vassar back up, 4-3, with a goal, at the 12:54 mark in the second. After Giuliotti's fifth save on in the quarter, on the Owls clear attempt, the Brewers' goalkeeper, Drew Quinn was out of the net, trying to cause a turnover on the KSC clear;
Dylan Fadale saw the open net and sent a shot sailing through the air, around 80 yards away from the Vassar goal, as it shocked everyone by bouncing right in, for his first career collegiate goal and tying the game up at four apiece, with 9:34 left in the half. VC responded with four more goals of their own, as Arcuri netted a pair, and Troy Santise and Colin Patchet each netted a goal as the Brewers doubled up the Owls, 8-4, with 2:54 in the second. KSC pulled within a pair by halftime as
Andrew Miller scored his sixth goal of the season, following a
Colby Quiet faceoff win, and then
Dylan Seymour assisted Ansart for a crazy behind-the-back shot past Quinn, as the Owls cut the lead to only a pair heading into half, also largely in thanks to Giuliotti's eight saves in the quarter and 13 in the opening half.
Both teams opened the second half on a slow start, as Giuliotti and Quinn each made a pair of saves in net in the opening 10 minutes to keep the third quarter scoreless to the point. Carl was the one to open the scoring in the second half, as he scored with 4:48 in the quarter. After Eli Sherman won the faceoff for the Brewers, Dan Negron netted the VC's second goal in a minute, shortly after.
Ty Cougler added his name to scorers for the Owls in the contest as he netted his first career collegiate goal, in only his fourth game, to pull the Owls to within three as they tried to mount a comeback. The Brewers did not allow it, as they responded to Cougler's goal with a pair pf their own, coming from Baker Morton scoring a man-up goal and Arcuri scoring his fourth of the contest, putting VC up 12-7 with 1:25 in the third. Lancaster added another point on the day in the closing seconds of the third, following a
Gabe Pereira faceoff win, as he assisted
Tim Souza for the Owls goal, making the score 12-8 heading into the final quarter.
Once again, each goalkeeper made a save in net to open the quarter, but this time, KSC got on the board first in the quarter, as Quinn saved Maccarini's shot, leading to a ground ball from Ansart, who was able to shoot and find the back of the net, bringing the Owls to within three with 11:54 in the contest. Unfortunately for the Owls, that would be their final goal of the game as Quinn made three more saves on their only other three shots on goal the rest of the day. Vassar added a pair of goals following the Owls', as Anderson Ead scored his first of the season for the Brewers, followed by Carl netting the final goal in the contest, as the Brewers held on for the 14-9 win over the Owls.
