How it Happened
KSC looked to get on the board first early in the contest, as
Elise Saab tried to find the back of the net, but WNE's goalkeeper, Molly McLaughlin, was able to save Saab's shot, 7:24 into the match. Through the rest of the opening half, WNE took control, as they outshot the Owls, 8-1. Owls' goalkeeper,
Riley Andriski, saved WNE's first four shots on goal, but with 14:02 remaining in the half, Brynn Murphy picked up on an assist on a goal from Stephanie McKenna, to put WNE up, 1-0. Andriski made a save on a shot from Lindsay Reidy, shortly after, which kept the score 1-0 for the Golden Bears, heading into the half.
WNE continued to be on the attack shortly after the start of the second half, but after they were called for being offsides three different times, and Andriski made another save in goal for the Owls, WNE would once again find the back of the net, thanks to McKenna assisting Liza Pinette for the Golden Bears' second goal of the day. Luckily for the Owls, that was the last goal that WNE scored, as they shut down the Golden Bears the rest of the way, just as WNE had done to them throughout the whole contest. Through the rest of the match, WNE got off four shots on goal, but Andriski did her part for the Owls, as she saved those four shots. The KSC attack was more non-existent in the second half, in comparison to the first, as the Owls were only able to record one shot over the final 45 minutes of play.
Elizabeth Tschudin saw her shot go wide of the net in the 77th minute as the Owls looked to make a comeback, but ultimately fell short in a 2-0 defeat to the Golden Bears.
