Three Owls Post Multi-Point Nights in Dominating Win over Colby-Sawyer

Daileanes, Bazin, Stefanakos Trio Carries Load in 6-1 Victory

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Grace Bazin scored a hat trick, Meghan Daileanes scored twice, and Irini Stefanakos added a goal and two helpers as the Keene State College field hockey team steamrolled Colby-Sawyer College 6-1 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Sally Shaw Veitch Field.

Off since Friday, the Owls (2-0) wasted no time getting on the board – over and over again.  Daileanes scored her two goals 1:54 apart in the opening 7:42 of the game, and Bazin scored two of her three 3:02 apart within the first 19 minutes.  By the time Stefanakos scored just 20:52 in, Keene State had already built a 5-0 advantage and was rolling.  In fact, the five goals in that span wound up being more than Colby-Sawyer's shot count (3) in the contest.  In the opening half, the home team's first shot did not come until nearly 26 minutes in when Grace Murphy cleared away a bid by Aili Carney.  KSC carried that 5-0 lead into the locker room, outshooting the Chargers 14-1.

Not much changed in the final 30 minutes on the scoreboard as the Owls remained well in control.  KSC did have a chance to get 18 reserves time – with Bazin, who has 23 goals and 53 points in 24 career games with Keene State, being one.

Daileanes finished with two goals and an assist on a marker by Bazin in the 59th minute that made it 6-0, her second career five-point game.

Colby-Sawyer spoiled the shutout with 1:18 to go when Sabrina Lippold scored.  It was a light day of work for Clara Gorman in the KSC cage, as she made one save.

Carly Bernard made eight stops in three quarters of action for the Chargers, while Ashley Blashock added five saves in the second quarter alone.

KSC finished with a 20-3 advantage in shots on goal, while the teams split eight penalty corners.

"We played well early in the game and had some nice connections, which we were able to convert," said Owls head coach Amy Watson.  "Colby-Sawyer did a nice job slowing us down in the second half...we were lucky we came out hot in the beginning."

It was a drastic turnaround from a year ago, when Colby-Sawyer posted a road 2OT victory in Keene (3-2).  In fact, the last three matchups had all been decided by one goal after the Owls had won the first four meetings by an aggregate 18-2 tally.  KSC has won all four all-time games in New London, limiting the hosts to a goal or less in all of them.

The Owls return to action at Worcester State University (0-2) on Saturday (September 7) for a noon start.
