How it Happened

Framingham State was on the attack early as they recorded four shots on goal over the first six minutes of the game, but the Owls' goaltender, Makenna Montgomery, saved all the Rams' shots. Anna McGinty opened the game in goal for the Rams, and she saved the Owls' first eight shots on goal. McGinty was unable to save the ninth as Ava Iantosca put the Owls on the board with Grace Bazin picking up her first assist of many on the day, alongside Brianna Finke, 16:27 into the period. FSU was called for a penalty shortly after Iantosca's goal, but the Rams killed it off with McGinty saving all the Owls' four shots heading into the second period of play.

KSC opened the second period on the penalty kill after receiving a penalty with a few seconds left in the first, but the Owls killed it off easily without allowing a shot on goal. After killing the penalty off, KSC recorded six shots on goal over a 1:40 span, but McGinty saved them all to keep the Owls' lead to just one. McGinty made eight more saves over the next five minutes, but soon after, the Owls finally found the back of the net again as Iantosca and Bazin assisted Finke on her team-leading 13th point of the season by scoring to put the Owls up a pair 10:49 into the second period. The Owls continued to keep their foot on the gas as they peppered McGinty with seven more shots in goal over the next four minutes, but she saved them all, until Ruby Boucher was called for a pair of penalties to give KSC an extra skater for four minutes. After it looked like the Rams would kill off the first of the two penalties assessed to Boucher, Mallory Stuart picked up her first point as an Owls and her and Bazin assisted Emma McNeil for her first career collegiate goal with eight seconds left on the first of two penalties to Boucher. The remaining 3:33 of the period, KSC tallied four more shots on goal, but McGinty held the Owls' lead to three heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

The Rams came out of the gates hot to start the final period, as Ceira Garrity pulled FSU within a pair of KSC with a goal 50 seconds into the period. Over the next six minutes, the Owls continued to try to add another goal by outshooting FSU 6-2, but both netminders held strong. 6:46 into the period, both teams were called for penalties and 20 seconds into the 4-on-4, FSU was called for another, giving KSC a 4-on-3 advantage. A minute later, the Owls capitalized with Bazin and McNeil assisting Paige Henault sniped a shot into the top right corner of the net for a power play goal to put KSC up 4-1. 38 seconds later, shortly after play returned to 5-on-5, the Owls tallied another goal as Haylee Owen absorbed the contact taken to the head on her shot and fired a shot past McGinty to put the Owls up 5-1 with Camden Ladzinski and Emily Underhill picking up assists on the play. The Owls stayed on the attack after Owen's goal, as they recorded seven shots on goal over the next five minutes, even killing off a penalty by Owen without allowing a shot on goal to the Rams, but McGinty saved them all. After being unable to capitalize on the extra-skater previously, the Rams netted their second goal of the game with 5:03 remaining with Sarah Lewis scoring for FSU to reach two goals scored in a game for the fourth time this season. Down the stretch, McGinty saved KSC's next eight shots, but directly following the eighth, coming from Madison Mosca, she gathered the rebound and sent a shot around McGinty for the senior's first career collegiate goal with 1:38 remaining in play. Ellie Patrick won the ensuing faceoff for KSC and picked up an assist alongside Owen, nine seconds after Mosca's goal, as Abby Pomajba netted her first goal as an Owls in just her third game after recently transferring to the program. After both goaltenders made one more save each in the closing two minutes, Henault added one last goal as the time ran off the clock, from Iantosca and Finke, giving KSC the 8-2 win over the rams on the day.
