How it Happened

Both offenses were fully firing in the first half as Williams recorded 16 shots to 12 from the Owls over the first 45 minutes. Despite the large amounts of shots, both defenses started off strong as the Owls blocked two of the first seven shots from the Ephs and the Owls' starting goalkeeper, Eldin Husanovic, made a pair of saves over the opening 23 minutes. On the other side of the field, Alex Anglada saved the first shot for the Ephs that he saw on the day, while his teammated blocked two more shots and saw another two go wide over the same time span. Unfortunately for the Owls, JJ Ruehlemann broke the scoring open by scoring a pair of goals for WC over a 3:27 span shortly after to go ahead 2-0. Williams continued to apply the pressure soon after, but after both goalkeepers traded a save apiece, the Ephs struck again as Luca Ruta found the back of the net for the third goal of the day for WC. The remaining eight minutes and change in the opening half saw Husanovic make another save and the Owls' defense block two more shots, but the Ephs returned the favor the exact same way on three KSC shots as WC took a 3-0 lead into the second half.

Farre-Torres entered in goal for the Owls in the second half and saved his first two shots that he saw in goal for KSC. 12 minutes into the half, WC struck again as Ruehlemann found the back of the net for the third time on the day to put the Ephs up 4-0. Farre-Torres held his ground and made three more saves as the Ephs continued to apply pressure over the next 17 minutes, but WC was able to send one more shot past him as Spencer Mix scored his second goal this season to put Williams up 5-0 with 15:07 remaining in the contest. The remainder of the contest Williams averaged almost a shot a minute as they recorded 12 more shots, but Farre-Torres made six more saves in goal, while the Owls' defense blocked two more shots and the others missed the target. In the closing minute, with only 32 seconds remaining, KSC found the back of the net to avoid the shutout as a pair of career firsts were recorded as Javier Perez de Vargas recorded his first career collegiate point on Woodley Jean Baptiste's first career collegiate goal as the Owls cut the final deficit to 5-1.
