Owls Dominate Huskies, Return to Win Column With 15-3 Win

GORHAM, Maine – After suffering their first Little East Conference loss of the season to Massachusetts Maritime Academy in their last contest and having a week to prepare for the University of Southern Maine Huskies, the Keene State College men's lacrosse team easily took care of business, as the Owls picked up the 15-3 win to return to the win column.

Records
  • Keene State: 5-5 (2-1 LEC)
  • Southern Maine: 2-9 (0-3 LEC)
How it Happened

The Owls dominated the first quarter of action as they outscored the Huskies 7-1 in the opening 15 minutes of play, where Rex Maccarini got the Owls on the board early with a hat trick in the opening 3:26 of action. Giacomo Tedone assisted Maccarini on the first of the three for a man-up goal, while Tim Souza assisted the other two goals to put the Owls ahead three early on. 20 seconds after Maccarini's third goal, Jack Theriault won the ensuing faceoff, which led to Nicholas McNulty scoring his ninth goal of the season for the Owls. Later in the quarter, KSC scored three more goals over a 2:17 span as Maccarini scored his fourth of the game for the first of the three goals. Dylan Seymour scored the next two goals for KSC in his first game back as Tedone picked up another assist and Adam Scala assisted the other as KSC jumped to a 7-0 lead. The Owls' starting goalkeeper, Dylan Florian, saved the first two shots from the Wolves in the quarter, but USM's third shot snuck past him with 2:28 remaining in the quarter, making the score 7-1 in KSC's favor heading into the second quarter.

KSC continued to rack up the goals in the second quarter as they scored four more, while shutting USM out over the 15 minutes of play. After scoring four goals in the opening quarter, Maccarini assisted on the Owls' first two goals in the second quarter over the first 3:11 as Seymour and Jack Ansart scored a goal apiece for KSC. The Owls' next score came two minutes later after Jaheim Lancaster caused a turnover on a Huskies' clear attempt; he scored his second goal of the season to put KSC up 10-1. Florian saved the two shots on goal by Huskies in the quarter and the Owls tacked on one more goal late in the quarter as Jake Dubiel assisted Maccarini on goal number five of the day to give KSC an 11-1 lead heading into the second half.

Maccarini's eighth point of the game came on assisting Ben Tukey's man-up goal to open the scoring in the half, 4:38 into the second half following Matthew Pacheco's save in net for the Owls in his first few collegiate minutes. Maccarini's ninth point of the game came later in the quarter, after the Huskies' goalkeeper, Addison Dietz, saved the three previous shots from the Owls, Maccaarini scored his sixth goal of the game and career goal number 100 for the Owls to increase the lead to 12. Pacheco saved two more shots from USM, and the Huskies were finally able to find the back of the net with less than a minute remaining in the quarter as KSC took a 13-2 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of action.

Parker Wallace opened the scoring in the scoring in the final quarter on the Owls' opening possession as he scored his first career collegiate goal in his first game played for KSC. Neither team recorded a shot on goal until over 10 minutes later until Owen Gaulrapp scored for the Huskies with 3:32 remaining in the contest. KSC tallied on one more goal less than a minute later after Tyler English won the ensuing faceoff, as Lancaster scored goal number three of the season, eventually giving KSC the 15-3 win on the day.
