How it Happened

KSC jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the contest with Giacomo Tedone assisting Jack Ansart for the opening goal, 1:07 into the contest and Jake Dubiel tacking on another goal 1:02 later. It didn't take long for the Cougars to catch back up to the Owls, as KSC's goalkeeper, Dylan Florian, saved two of the four shots on target over the next three and a half minutes, but CU was able to tie the game up at two apiece. Following a clear attempt for KSC, Ty Cougler tallied his first goal of the year for KSC as the long-stick midfielder gave KSC the lead with 8:31 remaining in the opening quarter of action. Florian made one more save the rest of the quarter and CU added their second man-up goal of the contest with 2:22 remaining to tie the game up at three heading into the second quarter.

Clark scored as many goals over the 15 minutes of play in the second quarter as the Owls did the rest of the 45 minutes of the contest combined as the Cougars netted five goals to just one from the Owls. After Lucas Coda opened the scoring for the Cougars in the second quarter with a goal 2:19 into it and his team's goalkeeper, Casey McCullough, saved the first three shots on goal from KSC in the quarter, Rex Maccarini netted his first goal of the game for the Owls to tie the game up at four. The rest of the 9:49 of the quarter, Clark scored four more goals, including a third man-up goal of the contest to double up the Owls and take an 8-4 lead into the half.

Matt Wells tallied his sixth point of the day for the Cougars to open the scoring in the second half with his third goal and the Cougars' fifth consecutive goal. KSC tried to gain some momentum after Jaheim Lancaster assisted on a pair of goals with Maccarini and Dylan Seymour each scoring a goal over the next five minutes, but KSC was unable to tally another goal in the quarter. After entering the net for the Owls at the beginning of the second half, Cameron Smith only allowed one goal and went on to make six saves across the 15 minutes of the third to limit the Cougars' lead to 9-6 heading into the fourth.

Both goalkeepers did their part to open the fourth quarter as over the first nine minutes of the fourth, Smith made four saves, and McCullough saved a pair of shots in net. Unfortunately for the Owls, CU scored a pair of goals six seconds a part to increase their lead to 11-6 with 5:27 remaining. KSC's comeback attempt was too late as a goal from each Maccarini and Dubiel was too late, and the Owls fell to the Cougars, 11-8.
