How it Happened
Elizabeth Yucius opened the scoring for the Hawks 6:15 in the contest, and after her teammate, Meghan Goutink has a shot hit the post just over a minute later, RWU jumped to a 2-0 lead as Mya D'Antonio scored 8:03 into play.
Riley Andriski, the Owls' goalkeeper, saved the next two shots that she faced in goal over the next 11 minutes, shortly after, the Owls were able to pull within a goal of RWU. With under 20 minutes remaining in the first half,
Allison Kenyon pressured and stole the ball from Hawks' goalkeeper, Coco Marrelli, and was able to pass it out to freshman
Mikayla Ryan, who fired a shot from outside the box over Marrelli for the first goal of her collegiate career. The rest of the half the Hawks continued to apply pressure on offense, but they were unable to tack on another goal as only two of their five shots were on target that Andriski saved. In the closing moments of the first half the Owls had a big offensive push leading to a corner with under 20 seconds remaining. Kayle DiPasquale sent the corner into the shot and after the ball was loose in the box, the ball found the foot of
Brookelyn Boothroyd, but her shot was blocked by a RWU defender leaving the Owls down by a goal heading into the half.
RWU opened the second half by scoring a pair of goals in the opening nine minutes, just as they did in the first half. Goutink assisted Julia Robbins on the first of the two, 2:24 into the quarter, while after Andriski saved the next shot she faced, Mya D'Antonio scored her second goal of the day coming on a penalty kick due to a foul in the Owls' box. The Hawks' fifth goal came 5:12 after their fourth as shortly after a corner kick, Camryn Dickinson, sister of Owls' junior
Bryn Dickinson, sent a pass into the box that her teammate Simone Cassano headed into the back of the net for the Hawks. After both goalkeepers saved the next shot they saw over the next few minutes, RWU tacked on their sixth goal on the day following Dickinson picking up another assist as her corner found the head of Sinead Deegan as she became the fifth Hawk on the day to tally a goal. The Owls were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the contest despite their offensive control the rest of the way as RWU held on for a 6-1 victory on the day.
