SALEM, Mass. – The first shot on goal of the contest was all it took by the end of the 90 minutes to hand the Keene State College women's soccer team their second loss of the season as Salem State's first shot on goal found the back of the net and the Vikings held on for a 1-0 win on the day.

How it Happened
SSU got the first opportunity of the contest 13 minutes in as they were awarded a corner and they immediately capitalized as the corner was sent to the edge of the box, finding the foot of Anna Frost, who weaved a shot through three KSC defenders and into the back of the net for the early lead. The Owls were on the attack over the next eight minutes as
Elizabeth Tschudin recorded a pair of shots with the first missing the target and the second ringing off the post, while
Mikayla Ryan recorded a shot of her own for KSC but the Vikings' goalkeeper, Ava Guyer, saved the attempt to draw even. KSC recorded another shot on goal during their next opportunity another eight minutes later, but Guyer made another save, this time on
Giuliana Stolfi. SSU tried to tack on another goal later in the half before halftime, but after their first of the two shots missed the target, the second was saved by the Owls' goalkeeper,
Hannah Verville, to keep it a one-goal game heading into the half.
KSC opened the second half trying to even the contest up at one apiece early in the last 45 minutes of regulation as KSC recorded five shots over 14 minutes. Two of the Owls' shots missed the frame, while another was blocked by a SSU defender, Guyer made another pair of saves denying Tschudin and
Emily O'Connell from tying the game up. After the Vikings had another pair of shots miss the target soon after, the Stolfi had another scoring chance for KSC, but Guyer yet again made another save for the Vikings. The Owls made numerous offensive pushes the rest of the final 10 minutes of the contest, but Guyer held strong by making three more saves to hold onto the 1-0 lead to improve to 2-0 on the season for SSU.
"It was not the result that we wanted" said Owls' head coach Sarah Testo. "We played a much better second half, but you can dominate a game and have lots of chances, yet still come up short. We will learn from it and move on."
